Chemical Sensors for Electronic Nose Systems
نویسندگان
چکیده
Chemical sensors have been widely used for the analysis of volatile organic compounds. Employing chemical sensors in an array format with pattern recognition provides a higher degree of selectivity and reversibility leading to an extensive range of applications. When such systems are used for odour analysis they are termed ‘electronic noses’. Application of electronic noses ranges from the food industry, medical industry to environmental monitoring and process control. Many types of different gas sensors have been employed in the array. These include conducting polymers, metal oxide semiconductors, piezoelectric, optical fluorescence and amperometric gas sensors The transducer principle of these sensors is varied and is discussed in detail within this review. Examples of the current trends in sensor array technology as well as the applications to which the sensor-based noses have been applied are also discussed.

Gas Sensing Techniques in Electronic Nose and its Applications: A Review
Electronic noses instruments were developed as systems for the discrimination of gases and odors. An electronic nose is a portable device which strives to sniff complex mixtures of volatile organic compounds. It consists of a large array of chemical sensors with associated signal conditioning and pattern recognition techniques. An electronic noses employs different types of gas sensors that use...

Electronic nose technology – that exploits arrays of broadly-tuned chemical sensors – has matured to the point where it is routinely applied to the quality control of a wide range of commercial products, such as foods, beverages, and cosmetics. Even though a large number of companies exist that design, implement, and sell this technology, the issue of how a practical system is configured and op...
متن کاملChemical Sensors Employed in Electronic Noses: A Review
Electronic noses utilizes an array of chemical sensors of different specificities which responds to the volatile organic compounds present in the gases. The use of electronic chemical sensors in an array design with coupled signal conditioning and appropriate pattern recognition system is capable of identifying complex odours.Such an artificial gas sensing system is called 'electronic nose'. Th...
متن کاملElectronic Noses and Their Applications
Electronic/artificial noses are being developed as systems for the automated detection and classification of odors, vapors, and gases. An electronic nose is generally composed of a chemical sensing system (e.g., sensor array or spectrometer) and a pattern recognition system (e.g., artificial neural network). We are developing electronic noses for the automated identification of volatile chemica...
متن کاملIEEE 1451 . 4 : A way to standardize gas sensor
The selection of the optimal sensors to use in an electronic nose is fundamental to the success or failure of any particular olfactory system in a certain application. The experimentation and characterization of gas sensors require complex electronic noses designed for the specific sensor array under test. The absence of design generalizations and standard interfaces in artificial chemical sens...
